About the Blooms

​

The Dusk Blooms are an evolving series of large-scale floral paintings on raw canvas, first conceived in 2024. Rooted in femininity and resilience, they unfold through layered washes of color, echoing the strength and softness of blooms that open as day turns to dusk.

Working with a soak-stain technique, Sarah uses water as a collaborator—flooding, diluting, and staining the canvas in gestures shaped as much by gravity and evaporation as by her own hand. These repeated gestures become quiet rituals, giving form to fleeting states of presence.

 

Time becomes visible in the work: in the pooling of pigment, the edges left by evaporated washes, and the subtle transformation of canvas as it absorbs and releases. Each painting is a quiet prayer, holding both presence and dissolution, tracing cycles of blooming, becoming, and release.
